Touring Bike

A touring bike, as the name suggests, is ideal for bicycle touring. It may have specifically been designed for this purpose. It may also have simply been modified for it.

Specific features of a touring bike include racks. These are located on both the front and rear of the frame. They allow for luggage to be carried. They also have an extended wheelbase, enabling sturdy wheels. These aid in carrying heavy loads and mounts for water bottles, fenders, and mudguards.

A touring bike may also fall under specific categories. For instance some are designed for road touring, others for sport touring, and still others for expedition touring. Recumbent options still exist within this style. It is also possible to purchase a tandem bicycle with a touring emphasis.
